Today is our boy Zach’s birthday, and we try to celebrate his life.
For most of his life, he brought so much joy and happiness to our extended family, our circle of friends, and his own group of friends. He had a quick wit and always made people laugh.
I always watch our home videos on this day and then visit him at the cemetery, where he is finally at peace from the disease that ultimately took him from us and from the world.
As a creative type, he made movies and played in a couple of ska bands with his high school friends. Anyone who knew Zach understood his barbs were always meant to get a laugh, never to disparage anyone.
Because of him, I became an advocate to reduce the stigma of Substance Use Disorder (SUD), educate people of all ages using trusted scientific and medical sources about this disease, and provide up-to-date information about prevention.
I hope you’ll take a few minutes to visit https://voicesfromtheopioidcrisis.com/about/ to learn about our 501(c)(3) charity and the work we do.
